4.5 VRQ patch v4.5_0466_vrq0 released

Finally, here is the all in one patch file at download link for vrq patch for kernel 4.5. Git repository will be updated in next two days.

It's still based on bfs 0466, and as previous branch strategy change, it contains no new code changes but the 4.5 sync-up code. And as CK has released 0469 but it is said that there is no code changes upon 0467 expect the sync-up code. I would check and pick up useful changes in 0469 to the incoming vrq1 release.

Have fun with 4.5 kernel.

  1. It fails on here during bootup somewhere after disks' init with something like rcu_preempt kthread starved ... with 60006 jiffies ... and then another one a little later.

Firstly, thanks for testing. I reviewed the code changes b/w 4.5 and 4.4 in bfs.c, the code changes are very minor and should not cause any issue. I'd get the new kernel to run on my old notebook and see happen there. And at the same time, I'd look at ck's 0469 and see if I have missed something in sync-up or not.

    2. The only way to provide you with more info, is to write down the call trace on a piece of paper and type it in here afterwards. If you wish me to do so, please let me know, and tell me which of these endless numbers I may omit. ;-)

Yesterday, I've tried with the first 27 incoming patches that will result in 4.5.1, but no difference. My next step is to patch out BFQ, to see if the kernel has the same problems without it.

BR and thank you for your work!

    3. Sorry, for making the noise on here.
I have now cross compiled to find out the culprit.
The current VRQ version is running fine, the BFQ for kernel 4.4 also works fine with 4.5, only the TuxOnIce-patch I used, results in the error described above.

Is someone of you, maybe post-factum, able to post/link a patch of TuxOnIce for a 4.5 kernel, that plays well?

Thank you all in advance and BR,
      Manuel Krause

Good to know you have found the cause of your issue. Have been busy to reply. When I looking at ck's new bfs 0469, I finally decide to rebase the vrq branch upon this latest bfs code for better maintenance. I have released v4.5_0469_vrq0, you can have a try.
